Historical Library

Rich in 35,000 volumes composed and printed since François I, the historical library of the Imprimerie Nationale includes significant funds specialised in graphic arts, but also numerous works on oriental scholarship, travel, natural history. … As well as a fine collection of bibliophile books, painter's books and artist's books. This library preserves masterpieces from the French edition:

The books from royal collections of the Cabinet du Roi, Histoire naturelle by Buffon, Voyage of Lapérouse, Description de l’Egypte, the Oriental Collection, Parallèlement by Verlaine illustrated by Bonnard and many other books illustrated by famous painters (Picasso, Chagall, Mirò, Giacometti, Riopelle, Bazaine, Cortot, Dorny, Garache, Zao Wou-Ki, Alechinsky, Barceló…).

Researchers can make an appointment to consult the works kept in the library on site.
